Are you going to train your puppy?
Most people get a dog on a whim because either they want it, or one of their children want it, and they never even think about training it. They take it to the vet for jabs etc, and they tell it off if it is naughty, but often people just leave the dog to do whatever it wants. I think dogs are a lot like children, you need to draw lines for them so they know what they can and can’t do, otherwise they will keep pushing the boundaries and become a real pain.
One problem that may crop up if you don’t train them is chewing on things. It is their own bed which is usually the first thing to be destroyed, they find that they can get their teeth into it and later in the day the bed is in bits all over the place. Some people do take action and think that is they buy one of the indestructible dog beds you can get then that will stop them, which it will, until they move onto your couch and anything else within reach.
A more worrying problem could be violence. If you give your dog too much freedom and they never get told off for snarling at people etc then you could find they start to get more and more aggressive and might even start trying to bite people. If you have kids then that is definitely something you don’t want to have to worry about, and it wouldn’t be nice to play with a dog who might bite you either.
Fighting is something you might experience with an untrained dog too. If you find that your dog won’t obey you when you call it back in the park, or they try to pull you along and get free of the leash when another dog is about, they could get away from you and start a fight where either they get hurt or the other dog does. That means you could end up paying a hefty vet bill even if your dog comes out unhurt, because you’ll need to pay to fix the mess they made of the other dog.
