Laptop vs. Netbook Computer
Netbooks, being as they are quite new on the landscape, have a few other names put on them such as mini laptop computers or ultraportables. The name notebook computer being synonymous with laptop.
The type of computers called netbooks, are considered to be in the subnotebooks category, that is a swiftly – changing class of compact, lightweight, lower price range laptop computers that is intended for ordinary computing and the use of web-based programs (they are able to connect to the world wide web wirelessly).
They are sold more or less as supplementary devices that have the capability to work along with one’s standard computer resources. Still further illustrative references include: small, light, minimalist and cheap laptops; in addition to more compact, lower cost notebook computers.
Appearing in the pre-winter holiday season of 2007 – as less sizeable laptops engineered for optimal performance with low weight together with low cost – netbooks opted against the cd/dvd drive, made due with more compact screens and as a consequence keyboards, and scaled back on specification and processing capacity.
In the years since then, the netbook’s monitor dimensions have had a range of from a bit less than five inches to a bit over 10, and with their weight in the one kilogram (2. 2 pounds) range.
By the summer of 2009 computers known as netbooks had become quite a bit less costly as compared with conventional notebooks, to the point of having even been obtainable as a free incentive on condition of a commitment to an Internet service plan by AT&T in Atlanta, Georgia
Within the brief period in time since their inception, netbooks have been expanding in dimensions and features, while concurrently notebook computers are being made less in weight and smaller. Hence, physical characteristics like their measurements and their weight will not be what can tell them apart.
As it looks these days, perhaps a Net Book Computer can probably be said to be a smallish, lower-powered laptop computer that has no optical drive(cd/dvd player/burner). Yet somehow that will not likely be for very long either, for the reason that optical disc drives are being made ever smaller and will soon easily fit into a netbook computer. Add to that the rapid improvement of wireless connectivity in computers will make it so that external media like dvd’s and blu- ray disks can easily be done without.
Anyway, for the present time, the netbook computer could perhaps best be described as a smaller, less costly laptop computer sans an optical disc drive.
